BURSA - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ertugrul Yalcinbayir said on Saturday, ''we should revise the National Programme, and fulfill political criteria without any delay.''
Responding questions of journalists, Yalcinbayir said, ''the Republic of Turkey targets to reach the level of modern civilizations. The regional dimension of this target is the European Union (EU) full membership. In line with its target, Turkey prepared its National Programme and committed itself to fulfill the necessary reforms. The new government has strengthened the will that was put forward by the former government, by making further arrangements. The new parliament has been displaying a great determination and harmony with its ruling and opposition parties. Our performance has influenced the EU.''
''Our people want to reach these criteria. Now, we should discuss what we can do to take a concrete step on the path of modernization. We should revise the National Programme, and fulfill political criteria without any delay,'' he said.
When asked whether or not the State Security Courts (DGMs) would be annulled, Yalcinbayir noted, ''first of all, we want establishment of a compromise commission under chairmanship of the relevant deputy parliament speaker to reconstruct our Constitution. We target to reconstruct the Constitution through this commission by listening to views of all political parties and non-governmental organizations. If it is impossible, then the Constitution should be changed in an effective way. The issue of DGMs will be taken up to this end. We are in favor of annulling the DGMs by establishing specialized courts.''
Responding a question about Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan's using a ''harsh'' style in his diplomacy towards the EU to get a date for opening of accession talks, Yalcinbayir said, ''his style influenced the EU.''
