COPENHAGEN - Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said early on Saturday, ''we will do our utmost to remove all deficiencies till release of the Progress Report in October of 2003.''
Addressing journalists after attending the meeting of heads of state and government of member and candidate countries to the European Union (EU), Gul said, ''Turkey's EU full membership has entered a real stage at Copenhagen summit. Now, everything depends on Turkey's performance. I want to stress once again that we make these reforms for our people, not only for EU full membership. Turkish people deserve these reforms. We will do our utmost to remove all deficiencies till release of the Progress Report in October of 2003.''
Prime Minister Gul noted, ''prime ministers of some EU member countries told us that if Turkey fully fulfilled Copenhagen criteria, accession talks could be started earlier.''
''As you know, an expression 'without delay' was added to the final statement of the summit. This expression has brought forth certainty and obligation,'' he added.
