COPENHAGEN - Ten countries which will become the new members of the European Union (EU) will commit that they will not obstruct opening of negotiations with Turkey.
Diplomatic sources said on Friday that countries which were already EU members and which would become new members of the Union would make a joint statement and note that ''they welcomed the decision regarding the following stage of Turkey's candidacy.''
Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh said that whether the EU was comprised of 15 or 25 countries would not cause any change in Turkey's situation if political criteria were met.
