COPENHAGEN - United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto said on Thursday that he would carry out shuttle diplomacy between representatives of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot administration during Copenhagen Summit.
Responding to questions, De Soto said that he would work to bring the two sides to an agreement point if possible and added that he hoped the two sides would reach agreement.
Noting that he has just had a meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides, De Soto said that he would also meet with TRNC Foreign and Defense Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu, who is expected to come to Copenhagen in the afternoon.
When asked whether he would bring the two sides together, De Soto said that he would not bring two sides together, but carry out shuttle diplomacy between the sides.
De Soto said that he hoped to convince two sides to reach agreement on the issue and added that he also hoped the two sides would sign Annan's proposal.
Upon another question, De Soto said that Annan had no plans to come to Copenhagen now.
