ANKARA - Ankara University Rector Prof. Nusret Aras said on Thursday that President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) went through a medical consultation as his health could not be fully improved after heart surgery in the United States. He said, ''the careful examinations showed that there is not a problem in his heart,'' stressing that there was not infection in the heart.
Prof. Aras made statements to the journalists regarded with the examinations carried out in Ibni Sina Hospital.
Prof. Aras said there was nothing vital about health of TRNC President Denktas, and noted that they would evaluate the results of examinations.
When asked why experts from other hospitals were called, Prof. Aras said ''Because we attribute importance to President Denktas. We took such measures because we wanted to prevent both our and the public's hesitations about his illness, not because there is anything serious in his condition.''
Prof. Aras said that he does not think that an operation will be necessary, adding ''This will become definite after the consultation. But I can certainly say that an operation is not necessary.''
Noting that Denktas does not have to stay in the hospital for a long time, Prof. Aras said that Denktas will decide it by himself.
Upon a question why they needed to make such a consultation, Prof. Aras said that Denktas was not recovered completely after the operation in the United States and added that they made the consultation to evaluate the small infection in his operation wound on and under the skin. Prof. Aras said that there is not any problem or infection in Denktas' heart.
