COPENHAGEN - U.S. President George Bush has called on European Union (EU) Term President Denmark's Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen on the phone and asked them to give ''positive and powerful message'' to Turkey at Copenhagen summit.
Speaking to reporters following the European Liberal Democrats Group meeting on Wednesday, Rasmussen said that Bush had told him on the phone that they wanted the EU to extend an important support to Turkey due to strategic interests.
Rasmussen said Bush had told him that he did not want to intervene in the EU's internal affairs but he believed that a positive and powerful message to Turkey would be beneficial to everybody.
When asked whether or not decision on Turkey would be postponed to Salonica summit, Rasmussen said he had noted down the proposals about Turkey during his tour to European capital cities.
''Under these proposals, we will take a decision on form of positive and powerful message to Turkey. I don't suppose that this message would be delayed to Salonica summit,'' he said.
