ANKARA - The Parliamentary Domestic Affairs Commission accepted on Monday the European Union (EU) adjustment package.
The package will be debated by the Parliamentary Justice Commission and the Parliamentary Constitution Commission tomorrow.
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said that they aimed to adopt the package till weekend.
The package including 34 articles, envisages amendments to 16 different laws.
According to the package, detention period will be decreased from 10 days to 7 days in the Emergency Rule Region.
Judges will listen to the convicts and detainees in each occasion before taking a decision. Also, health situation of convicts and detainees will be determined with reports during their departure from and arrival in prisons.
With another change to be made in Article 15 of the Press Law, owners of press organs cannot force their sources to make statements.
The draft includes an arrargement enabling foreigners to submit their petitions to the parliament.
Foreigners residing in Turkey will benefit from this right with the condition of writing their petition in Turkish.
According to the package, community foundations will get permission from the Directorate General of Foundations to obtain real properties. Community foundations will be able to obtain real properties in order to meet their religious, social, educational, sanitary and cultural requirements.
Associations will use Turkish language in their correspondence with state institutions.
Announcements, statements and similar publications of associations will be seized, if these publications threat internal and external security of the state, object to main characteristics of the Republic, incite people to commit crimes or to start a uprising, publish confidential documents of the state and violate private lives of others.
No one will be allowed to establish associations against main characteristicts of the Republic, against general health and general ethic with the aim of committing crimes jeopardizing national security and public order, or of restricting freedom of others.
Associations will be able to stage international activities to reach their targets explained in their regulations. They will be able to open offices abroad, and become members of international associations or organizations.
With the permission of the Interior Ministry and positive opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign associations will be allowed to stage activities, open offices and join associations in Turkey.
