TEHRAN - The Turkish Embassy in Tehran held a meeting on Sunday to brief Iranian businessmen.
Speaking at the meeting, Turkish Ambassador to Iran Selahattin Alpar said that trade between two neighboring countries having giant markets and production facilities like Turkey and Iran was not at the desired level and that they targeted to diversify, consolidate and increase the bilateral trade.
Alpar said that 2002 was a year during which Turkish and Iranian high level officials had held mutual visits that aimed to improve bilateral economic and commercial relations.
Noting that the Turkish-Iranian Joint Economic Commission was exerting efforts to solve problems in front of businessmen and offer some facilities and in its meetings, it was taking up issues like increase in trade, financial facilities, solution of problems regarding transportation, measures for effective work in banking field and new opportunities in industry and forestry.
Recalling that Turkey and Iran had signed important agreements to create a sound economic environment, Alpar said that those agreements were on trade, land transportation, economic, industrial and technical cooperation, natural gas, prevention of double taxation, Eximbank between the two countries, maritime trade, border trade, veterinary medicine and investment incentives.
Alpar stressed that Turkish and Iranian businessmen could cooperate in profitable fields like tourism, textiles, food industry, milk products, agricultural products and automotive by-industry.
Alpar added that the Turkish-Iranian Joint Economic Commission's 17th term meeting would be held in Turkey in near future.
