ANKARA - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis and ministry bureaucrats gave a briefing to Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and stressed the determination of the government to get a definite date in the European Union (EU) Copenhagen Summit to start full membership negotiations.
Evaluations were made in the meeting regarded with Turkey's EU membership.
Gul's visit to Copenhagen in December 11-14, visit of AK Party leader Erdogan to the United States, his meeting with the U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, and studies regarded with EU summit that would take place in Copenhagen were discussed.
It was reported at the end of the meeting that the government was resolved to get a definite date to start full membership negotiations, and that the date had to be set till the end of 2003.
