Prodi: Turkey Is Eu Candidate

BRUSSELS - EU Commission President Romano Prodi said on Thursday that Turkey is a EU candidate.
Responding to questions of journalists about Turkey before the European Convention meeting, Prodi said that ''Turkey is a EU candidate and EU didn't have a different attitude towards it.''
Noting that Turkey took important steps recently, but there are still things to be done by Turkey, Prodi said that the rules of the EU won't change and the conditions have to be fullfilled.
Turkish government is represented by Foreign Minister Yasar Yakýs and the Turkish parliament is represented by AK Party deputies Zekeriya Akcam and Ibrahim Ozal and CHP deputies Kemal Dervis and Necdet Budak.
Deputies said in their contacts they told that Turkey wanted to get a date to start accession talks in Copenhagen summit, and the formula of 'date for date' won't be satisfying. ''The persons we talk don't mention a clear date, this issue will have its final form in the coming days,'' Kemal Dervis said.
