ANKARA - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis left for Brussels, Belgium on Thursday to participate in the regular monthly meetings of the European Convention in which the future of Europe is discussed.
Yakis responded to questions of journalists about the new ''framework plan'' for the solution of Cyprus problem before leaving for Brussels.
Yakis said that the idea of ''framework plan'' was put forward by Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, adding that he was not informed about the plan yet.
''We also want to see what that framework is. We told the Greek side that if they send us a document, we will learn what that framework is and we can respond to it,'' Yakýs said.
Foreign Minister Yakis added that ''we don't want the Annan plan to be left if the negotiations that have to be carried out on Cyprus issue until December 12 can't be finished. We don't want the negotiations to end. The state on the island can join the EU only if it is a partnership state. If this is the thing that is meant by this framework, then we can negotiate it with Greece. But if Greece proposes another thing, we must evaluate it seperately. We can't know clearly what the Greek side mentions without seeing the document now.''
When asked when Greece would send the document to Turkey, Yakis said that ''we wait for that document now. I thought that Papandreou had the document with him, but as he didn't, I think he will send it to us after discussing it with Greek officials first.''
Yakis said that the document to be sent by TRNC President Denktas to Annan is ready, adding that the document would be conveyed to the U.N. ''today or tomorrow.''
Yakis said that he will meet with EU Higher Commissioner for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana in Brussels, adding that he can also meet with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen.
Yakis said that he will also meet with foreign ministers of other countries who are in Brussels for the meeting, adding that the top issue on the agenda of the European Convention meetings will be that of EU's giving a date to Turkey for starting accession talks.
