ANKARA - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakýs said on Thursday that Turkey didn't give any commitment to the U.S. regarding the use of Turkish capabilities.
Speaking to the press after the meeting of Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou with AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Yakýs said that Turkish-Greek relations and international issues were taken up in the meeting. ''Mr. Papandreou explained the efforts launched for EU's giving a date to Turkey in Copenhagen summit,'' Yakýs said.
Upon a question, Yakýs said that in case of an operation against Iraq, this won't affect Turkey-EU relations and Cyprus issue, adding that yet Turkey will suffer economically.
Yakýs said that they want the Iraqi issue to be sorted out peacefully, adding that they continue to launch efforts to this end.
Papandreou said that during their meeting, they stressed that efforts that Turkey had exerted to meet Copenhagen criteria so far should continue.
They also discussed how those efforts could be brought to a certain point, Papandreou noted.
Papandreou stated that they tried to give a new momentum to solution of issues between the two countries and one of those issues was the Cyprus question.
Erdogan confirmed positive course of the relations during their meeting, Papandreou pointed out.
Papandreou quoted Erdogan as saying that efforts aiming at fulfilment of Copenhagen criteria were positive and that there were also positive steps about Cyprus question.
Situation should be brought to a further point by a positive message about all these issues till Copenhagen summit, Papandreou said.
Papandreou noted that they also touched on UEFA 2008 organization, adding that this would be the feast of sports, friendship and peace.
