ANKARA - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis said on Wednesday that Turkey had not made any commitment to the United States.
Responding to questions of reporters, Yakis clarified his words on Turkey's role in a possible U.S. operation on Iraq and said, ''there was nothing in my words that would make Turkey under commitment related with developments in Iraq.''
Yakis noted that the Foreign Ministry clarified the issue with a written statement.
Stating that the question that was asked him during his joint press conference with British Foreign Minister Jack Straw was a ''hypothetical scenario'', Yakis said, ''we have stated that we won't keep our doors closed to negotiations on several cooperation issues with our U.S. friends.''
Yakis added, ''this news was deviated and then published. To this end, the statement of the Foreign Ministry confirms my words. Turkey has not made any commitment to the United States.''
