Turkish Bars Union Chairman Says They Are In Favour Of Amendment Of Whole Of Constitution

ANTALYA - Turkish Bars Union Chairman Ozdemir Ozok said on Saturday that they were in favour of amendment of whole of the Constitution but they did not have article 109 on their agenda.
Responding to questions of reporters, Ozok said that they did not defend the current Constitution but that they did not have article 109 on their agenda.
Ozok went on saying, ''we want a civilian Constitution. There cannot be an amendment to the Constitution peculiar to only one person. A prime minister outside the parliament is contrary to the parliamentary system. The government has the numerical power. Representatives of the ruling party had earlier stated that they would be sensitive about the statements of the society and non-governmental organizations. I hope the ruling party will take lesson from the past and will not cause any tension.''
The Bars Union were very sensitive towards the headscarf issue, Ozok said and added, ''we respect to headscarf in private life. We think that headscarf will not be suitable in public area in Turkey which wants to join the European Union (EU).''
