Italy, Germany, Saudi Arabia, United States And Syria Become Gap's Export Centers

GAZIANTEP - Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region exported 32.7 percent of its total products to Italy, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Syria, which have become export centers of the region, in the first ten months of this year.
The region had raised an income of 156 million 225 thousand U.S. dollars from its agricultural exports to the mentioned five countries in the first ten months of 2002, while the amount of exported products was 151 million 332 thousand dollars in the same period of last year.
According to figures of Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Association, the region raised an income of 41 million 293 thousand U.S. dollars from its exports to Italy, exported 34 million 513 thousand U.S. dollars agricultural products to Germany, obtained 31 million 603 thousand U.S. dollars from its exports to Saudi Arabia, raised 29 million 171 thousand U.S. dollars from its exports to the United States and made 19 million 645 thousand U.S. dollars exportation to Syria between January and September 2002.
Exports to Italy decreased by 19.4 percent and exports to Syria fell by 30.3 percent in the mentioned period. However, exports to Germany rose by 27.3 percent and to Saudi Arabia by 31.1 percent while the rise in exports to the United States was 40.6 percent.
Dried apricot, cotton thread, synthetic thread, cotton, knitted and synthetic textile, machine-made carpet and towel were main export products.
