ANKARA - Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that the government doesn't have any secret idea or secret agenda while undertaking studies about democratization and justice reform.
Addressing his party group meeting in the parliament, Gul said that Nov. 3 elections were turning point for the Turkish politics. The national will brought AK Party to power on its own, he said.
Recalling that the government announced the policies it would pursue in the short, medium and long run, Gul said that Turkey will go through a transformation during the AK Party rule and that the Turkish people will be pleased when the reforms are undertaken.
Gul said that a new period has started in Turkey, adding that the old style of politics has ended. Noting that the government aims to overcome the problems of Turkey through dialogue and compromise by acting together with the opposition party in the parliament and opposition outside the parliament, Gul said that they give priority to development of democratic standards.
Recalling that the government carries out a new study to bring democratic standards in line with Copenhagen criteria, Gul said that ''we don't have any secret idea or secret agenda while doing that.''
Gul said that they want the Copenhagen criteria and international conventions to be fully implemented in Turkey, adding that ''while doing that, we need a new Constitution. No body has the right to feel uneasiness when one talks about the Constitution. It is of our common mission to prepare a Constitution which is in line with the 21st century.''
Prime Minister Gul said that such changes are needed in order to open the way of Turkey, adding that ''we respect the national will which came out on Nov. 3. This will has certain demands from us and we have to fulfil these responsibilities.''
