NO MORE PRESSURE AND BLACKMAIL IN MEDIA
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul read out the government programme in the parliament yesterday. He stressed that influential persons and organs will be prevented to affect the judiciary and mislead the justice. Gul didn't mention the issue of lifting the parliamentary immunity of deputies and he also didn't mention ''political ethics.'' Yet he stressed that financing politics will be made transparent. Gul stressed that a new constitution will be prepared.

PEKINEL WRITES LETTER TO GISCARD
Famous pianist Guher Pekinel wrote a letter to former French President Giscard d'Estaing who opposed Turkey's entering the European Union (EU). The letter will be published in French newspaper Le Monde in the coming days. Pekinel said in her letter that ''Muslim Turkey does not consider any problem in coexisting with a Christian Europe, don't you think it is interesting to see that some Europeans think the contrary?''

SEZER DECIDES NOT TO TAKE HIS WIFE TO GERMANY
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer was uneasy about the debate that started in the public opinion who thinks that ''the parliament speaker's wife with head scarf was accepted in the state protocol.'' President Sezer decided not to take his wife with him when going to Germany for an official visit on Nov. 26.

NEW PROGRAMME IN ECONOMY
The 58th government's programme was announced yesterday. Here are the main points: ''a new programme which gives priority to employment in economy and economic growth will be implemented. The floating exchange rate will continue. All the impediments that stand in front of religious schools and head scarf will be lifted. Religious education will be given priority. A new and more liberal constitution will be prepared.''

JUST LIKE SECOND REPUBLC
If the government programme which was announced by Prime Minister Abdullah Gul yesterday is implemented successfully, Turkey will change very radically. Gul started his words in the parliament saying ''our main target will be to reach the modern civilization level as shown by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.'' Summing up the vision of the government as ''respectable, democratic and dynamic Turkey,'' Gul said that ''we will amend the Constitution and laws to upgrade the basic rights and freedoms to the level of Copenhagen criteria.''

HOLBROOKE CRITICIZES DENKTAS
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton's former special representative for Cyprus Richard Holbrooke told the paper that TRNC President Rauf Denktas has to change its attitude in Cyprus and consider the U.N. plan as negotiable. Brooke said that Denktas is not in a position to accept all provisions of the U.N. plan, he said adding that the plan has many mistakes. Yet Denktas has to accept the plan as a starting point, Holbrooke asserted.

CONDITIONAL DATE FOR TURKEY
All the eyes were on Turkey in the NATO Summit in Prague which took place just before the EU Summit in Copenhagen that will be held between 10-12 December. Probably a conditional date will be given to Turkey to start accession talks with EU during the Copenhagen summit. Almost all EU officials said that any progress in issues of ESDP and Cyprus will be useful for Turkey to get a date from EU.

SPECIAL IMPORTANCE TO ARAB WORLD IN GOVERNMENT PROGRAMME
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) said in the government programme that the government attributed special importance to Turkey's relations with the Arab World. The programme said that the government would exert efforts to increase the bilateral cooperation with the Arab countries and to make the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) have a more dynamic structure and have a more respectful place in the international field.

FIRST TARGET EUROPE
Prime Minister Abdullah Gul read out on Saturday the 58th government's programme in the parliament in one hour and fifteen minutes. The programme of the 58th government focuses on the adjustment to the European Union (EU). According to the programme, the Copenhagen criteria will be reached and adjustment studies to the EU acquisition will be speeded up. Foreign policies comforming with the regional and global conjunctures will be implemented and Turkey will cooperate with the United States in economy, investment and science fields. The programme said related to the Cyprus issue that U.N. Secretary General Annan's plan is positive and negotiations which will guarantee the sovereignty and existence of Turkish Cypriot people will be held by taking into consideration the national interests.

AK PARTY TO PERMIT PRIME MINISTERS TO BE ELECTED OUT OF PARLIAMENT
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Executive Board launched preliminary studies related to the constitutional amendments under the chairmanship of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leader of AK Party. The party is preparing a package including amendment of the Article 109 of the Constitution that will permit people to be appointed as prime minister and minister out of the parliament.

CYPRUS DIPLOMACY TRAFFIC
Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis, who went to New York, will discuss the United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's Cyprus plan with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas. British Special Representative to Cyprus David Hannay will meet with Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal on Monday. It is reported that U.N. Secretary General's special envoy for Cyprus Alvaro De Soto wanted to meet with Foreign Minister Yasar Yakýs and the meeting of the two will be arranged.

ISAF COMMANDER ZORLU: ''WE SHOWED TURKEY'S IMPORTANCE TO WORLD''
Commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) Gen. Hilmi Akýn Zorlu said that Turkey's successfully carrying out the command of ISAF in that critical country has showed the power of Turkey to the world once again. Zorlu addressed a meeeting at The Washington Institute and held a news conference after meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. Gen. Zorlu said in the news conference held for Turkish journalists that ''the Turkish soldiers showed in Afghanistan not only their military success, but also the fact that they learnt diplomacy.''

FINANCE MINISTRY TO BE TURNED INTO UNDERSECRETARIAT
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government started to work to restructure the public sector. According to the urgent action plan of the party, Finance Ministry will be turned into a revenues undersecretariat in the long term period. Within the framework of the restructuring of the state, some institutions will serve under one roof.
