DUBLIN - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that they would re-evaluate the relations in case a negative result, apart from Turkey's demands, is obtained in December 12 Copenhagen Summit.
Pointing out that ''falcon policy'' will never yield in a result in politics, Erdogan said Turkey would continue its efforts.
Erdogan met Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern for nearly an hour.
Stating that he had a positive meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, Erdogan said they discussed setting a date for Turkey's EU full membership, Cyprus and European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP).
Erdogan said improvement of economic relations between Turkey and Ireland was also taken up, and added that he hoped the relations would be improved from now on.
When a journalist said, ''you speak contrary to the former thesis on Cyprus issue. It has been stated that there are concerns in Turkey that Cyprus may be lost following your statements. How do you evaluate this?'' Erdogan said he had difficulty in understanding the logic of those who speak about the loss.
''We should understand what winning and losing means,'' Erdogan said, adding that they exerted efforts to reach a healthy result.
Erdogan said they talked about a partnership state based on two equal and sovereign states, stressing that this issue could not be solved for 40 years. He said they did not favor creating problems, but solution.
When asked to evaluate his statement 'Verheugen cannot change our strategy', Erdogan said that Verheugen and Prodi can make infrastructure for the decision in Turkey's EU membership process, however the decision of membership and negotiation will be taken by politicians.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis recalled that sovereignty subject had not been brought into agenda in United Nations (U.N.) plans about Cyprus until now but this subject took place in the recent plan.
When reporters asked Erdogan ''Is Turkish foreign policy changed?'' he said that ESDP, Cyprus and EU membership subjects had always been connected with each other until now and so they had to come with a proposal.
Upon a question on the future relations if a negative decision about Turkey is taken in Copenhagen, Erdogan said that politics is an art of getting results, adding that in case of a negative result, they will evaluate the situation again.
Erdogan said that they are exerting efforts to reach EU membership target and added that if they cannot, the alternative will be their administration.
