Broadcast In Traditional Language And Dialects

ANKARA - Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) Chairman Fatih Karaca said on Wednesday that state-run Turkish Radio and Televison (TRT) was given the authority to make broadcast in traditional different languages and dialects which are used by the Turkish citizens in their daily life.
Noting that broadcast aiming at teaching those languages and dialects could not be made, Karaca said, ''radio broadcast that will be made in those language will not be more than 45 minutes a day, and four hours a week. Television broadcast will not be more than 30 minutes a day, and two hours a week.''
Karaca, who held a news conference, briefed about the ''Regulation on Language of Radio and Television Broadcast''.
Pointing out that they examined the regulations in EU member countries to prepare a regulation, and listened to the views of public institutions, Karaca said within this framework the authority to make broadcast in traditional language and dialect was given to TRT.
Karaca said those broadcastings should not contradict with Turkey's inseparable integrity, fundamental qualities of the Republic, and Ataturk's principles and reforms.
