STRASBOURG - Amendment proposal of Christian Democrats in European Parliament (EP) to grant ''special partnership'' to Turkey instead of membership was rejected on Wednesday.
A voting took place in EP General Assembly, and the enlargement report prepared by Christian Democrat Elmar Brok regarded with the EU candidate countries was adopted.
Amendment motion of Christian Democrats, envisaging establishment of Turkish-EU relations on the basis of ''special partnership'' was rejected.
A total of 376 parliamentarians voted in favor of rejection of the amendment motion. 156 others voted in favor of motion.
Socialist, Liberal and Greens groups opposed to the proposal of Christian Democrats to establish Turkish-EU relations on the basis of ''special partnership''.
In Turkey section of the enlargement report, implementation of reforms adopted in the Parliament, and its reflection on daily life was requested.
The negotiation date for EU full membership, which Turkey insistently demanded, was not mentioned.
The report demanded Turkey to expend an influential support to the ongoing talks aimed at finding a solution to Cyprus question.
