ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Tuesday regarding the news telling that an amendment was made in the cabinet upon the wish of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, adding that ''the Prime Minister seems pleased and the President approved the cabinet list. We, as the opposition party does not have anything to say.''
Baykal responded to questions of journalists in his meeting with Iraqi Turkmen Front Chairman Sanan Ahmet Aga.
Upon a question about the request of Supreme Court of Appeals regarding the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of independent deputy Fadýl Akgunduz, Baykal said that he expected that there would be many applications from the prosecutors to the parliament. Baykal said he hoped the parliament would not put obstacles in front of the judiciary, adding that ''in fact, we wish to totally sort out the issue of parliamentary immunity without feeling the need to take decisions individually.''
Asked if his warnings about secularism made in his group meeting were related with the AK Party, Baykal said that he stated the general facts and the truth and he did not aim to ''accuse'' anybody.
Baykal noted that he thought it would be useful to remind some basic realities and added, ''I hope nobody has disputes about sharing principles. I did not say them with an understanding of a dispute. I think it is useful to voice common views from time to time.''
Iraqi Turkmen Front (IFC) Chairman Sanan Ahmed Aga mentioned their problems and said that they expected Turkey to do what is necessary.
Aga noted that they wanted to be represented in a commission that would ensure ''re-formation of Iraq.''
He said that he hoped that Iraqi Turkmens would continue to live in peace by being proud of their own culture.
