U.S. Congress Members Visit Foreign Ministry

ANKARA - Members of the U.S. Congress held on Tuesday contacts in Ankara regarding Iraqi issue and Turkey-European Union (EU) relations.
Darrell Issa, heading the delegation, held a meeting with Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal.
Following the meeting, Issa told reporters that they came to Turkey to listen to Ankara's views about developments in Iraq.
Issa said that it was important for them to learn the views of Turkey, the only democratic country in the Islam world, regarding current and future relations of the United States with Iraq.
This dialogue would continue until the regime changed in Iraq, Issa noted.
Issa stated that they took up the United Nations (U.N.) plan for Cyprus toward which the new government had a positive approach and the U.S.-Turkey commercial relations.
They discussed the ways to further improve commercial relations during their meeting, Issa pointed out.
Issa said that they had held contacts in the European Parliament (EP) before they came to Ankara and took up Turkey-EU process.
Turkey had to be awarded for the steps it had taken in EU process, Issa added.
U.S. Congress members who also held contacts in the General Staff will depart from Ankara later in the day.
