ANKARA - Worker's Party (IP) leader Dogu Perincek was acquitted on Tuesday in the lawsuit which was filed against him on charges of illegally seizing and announcing EU's Former Representative in Turkey Karen Fogg's e-mails after hacking into her computer.
Lawyers of Perincek attended the case which was heard in Ankara Basic Criminal Court no:2 and Judge Nuri Ozturk said that other suspect Hasan Yalcin's death record was conveyed to the court and Prosecutor Yucel Ildeniz demanded the cancellation of his case due to that reason.
Lawyers of Perincek demanded his acquittal as Perincek was trying to defend the state and he did not commit a crime.
Ildeniz said that Perincek's crime suits Turkish Penal Code's (TCK) 196th article which defines crime of ''removing correspondence records'' so that he cannot be accused with crime of informatics defined in 525th article of TCK, adding that as Fogg did not apply to the court in conformity with the limitations, Perincek also cannot be tried under the 196th article.
Judge Ozturk decided the acquittal of Perincek and the cancellation of Yalcin's case.
Perincek was being tried under article 525 of the TCK with the title ''seizing and duplicating computer program'' and the prosecutor had asked for a prison term of one to three years.
