ANKARA - Abdullah Gul, a deputy of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) who was designated to form the 58th government, said that the Cyprus question, the European Union (EU) membership and economy were their issues of priority.
Speaking at a live-programme on the private NTV television channel, Gul said, ''the government can be formed within a few days without losing time. During this period, I will exchange views with AK Party officials about the Council of Ministers.''
When asked, ''German model was brought onto agenda at the AK Party. Will this cause problems in future?'' Gul said, ''Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other AK Party members have a unity of destiny. Our priority is to solve problems of Turkey. Disagreements and caprices will not affect us. We will solve the problems with consultations.''
When asked, ''why Erdogan announced the urgent action plan istead of the prime minister?'' Gul said, ''this is the action plan of the AK Party. These are plans and programmes prepared for success.''
Gul said that Cyprus, EU and economy would be their prior issues.
When recalled of Erdogan's statements about the EU and when asked whether or not he would pay visits like Erdogan, Gul said, ''we altogether are working to win a date for beginning of EU accession talks. As a political leader Tayyip Erdogan and also Deniz Baykal are exerting efforts to this end. I will of course pay such visits and also the President will pay such visits.''
Replying questions about amendment to the Constitution, Gul said, ''people have brought us to the power alone. We will try to do those amendments within compromise.''
Later, Abdullah Gul went to parliament.
