ISTANBUL - The meeting organized by Turkish Maritime Researches Foundation (TUDAV) on the issue of ''Straits Used in International Transportation'' started in Istanbul on Saturday.
Speaking at the meeting, TUDAV Chairman Bayram Ozturk said that they would exchange views on issues such as risk of passages from the Straits, sea pollution, vessel accidents and security and legal problems following the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001 during the two-day meeting.
Ozturk said, ''Turkish and foreign experts will tour the Istanbul Strait with a yacht on Sunday. They will listen to problems of fishermen.''
During the meeting, necessary cooperation opportunities will be sought to protect the straits which were used in international transportation from the pollution stemming from vessel accidents.
The participants will discuss the issues such us expending joint efforts to decrease accidents in straits in the world, warning international organizations and bringing problems of straits onto agenda of the world.
Turkish participants will draw attention of foreigners to the risk stemming from passage of vessels from the Istanbul Strait.
