VARSOVA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Thursday that the timing of Cyprus Plan which was prepared by United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan is not suitable for Turkey.
Recalling that the new government in Turkey has not started its term yet and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) leader Rauf Denktas has health problems, Baykal said that those are important obstacles.
Baykal who arrived in Warsaw for the Council meeting of Party of European Socialists (PES) responded the questions of reporters prior to his contacts.
When asked whether he will discuss Cyprus Plan in the meeting with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis on Friday, Baykal said that the main subject of the meeting will be Turkey's expectations for the membership to European Union (EU) and he added that Turkey needs to make more detailed evaluations about Cyprus question.
Baykal said that Cyprus question should be discussed and evaluated seriously, adding that Greece is more prepared than Turkey about this subject.
Upon a question on the developments regarded with Iraq, Baykal said that U.N.'s decision about Iraq is pleasing and Turkey gains time by that decision, hoping that military operation possibility vanishes completely which will bring an important chance to Turkey to consider its basic problems.
