Berlusconi Wants Turkey To Join E.U. During Italy's E.U. Term Presidency

ROME/ANKARA - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Wednesday that he wanted Turkey to join the European Union (EU) during Italy's EU Term Presidency.
Berlusconi, who had a meeting with Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, recalled that Italy would be the next term president, stressing that he wanted to see Turkey as an EU member during their term presidency.
Evaluating the high rate of votes AK Party got during the elections, Berlusconi said everybody should respect to nearly 35 percent of votes.
It was stated that U.N.'s Cyprus report and Iraq were also brought onto the agenda during their meeting.
Meanwhile, Italian main opposition party leader Pier Fassino promised Erdogan that he would request prime ministers of social democrat EU member countries to support Turkey's full membership to the EU.
Later, Erdogan left for Turkey.
