ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Wednesday that the contacts which the Republican People's Party will hold for Turkey's EU membership process will be very useful before EU Summit in Copenhagen.
Baykal went to Warsaw, Poland to participate in the European Social Democratic Parties Union meeting the same day.
Speaking about his visit at Esenboga Airport, Baykal said that he will have the opportunity to explain the views of Turkey about the enlargement of Europe during this meeting.
Recalling that social democratic party leaders from various European countries will participate in the meeting, Baykal said that part of them are prime ministers and part of them work as the opposition leaders.
Noting that he will have the opportunity to explain the views of Turkey in that meeting, Baykal said that ''a meeting will be held with leaders of all social democrat parties in Europe, I will have the opportunity to explain once again our views to the party leaders there. I will also have the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings. I will meet with Greek Prime Minister Simitis there.''
Baykal said that his party demanded European political party leaders and prime ministers to support EU's giving a negotiation date to Turkey.
