ISTANBUL - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday, ''finding a solution to the Cyprus question will accelerate Turkey's European Union (EU) process. Also, it will constitute an important step to overcome many difficulties between Turkey and Greece.''
Responding questions of journalists about the solution plan presented by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan to the sides yesterday, Erdogan said that he had not received yet detailed information about the plan.
''Earlier, we put forward our view about the Cyprus question: Two equal, sovereign and separate states inspired by Belgian model. Also, I want to stress that finding a solution to the Cyprus question which could not be solved for 40 years, will accelerate Turkey's EU full membership process. It will also constitute an important step to overcome many difficulties between Turkey and Greece,'' he added.
