ISTANBUL - Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Jalal Talabani came to Turkey on Tuesday.
Talabani told reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport that they did not support an independent Kurdish state to be founded in Iraq and added that they wanted a democratic and federal Iraq.
Stating that he had contacts in Syria and Iran last week, Talabani said that those states did not want an independent Kurdish state in the region, either.
Noting that the relations with Turkey were very good, Talabani said that he would fly to Ankara and assess the latest developments related to Middle East and Iraq with the state officials.
Upon a question related to the general elections which was held on November 3 in Turkey, he said that they respected decision of Turkish people who sent two political parties to the parliament.
Asked whether or not he expected a change in Turkey's Iraq policy with the new government, Talabani said that they would see it, stating that he could not comment on the issue without seeing the programme of the new government.
Talabani said that he wanted to meet with Justice and Development Party (AKP) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and added that he might not meet the leaders because they were very busy.
