Erdogan: Statements Put Forward By The President And The Justice Minister Are Requirements Of Law

ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the statements put forward both by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Justice Minister Aysel Celikel were requirements of law, stressing that, ''those are like this in the law. It does not take place as a different article. Don't forget that it is the duty of the political will to overcome a difficulty that contradicts with the national will.''
Erdogan responded to the questions of reporters following his meeting with Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Chairman Zafer Caglayan.
When a reporter reminded Erdogan the statements of Justice Minister Celikel after President Sezer that there can not be a legal arrangement for a person, and asked what kind of a method would be implemented regarded with Article 109 of the Constitution, Erdogan said, ''statements revealed both by the President and the Justice Minister are requirements of law. It does not take place as a different article in the laws. Don't forget that it is the duty of the political will to overcome a difficulty that is in front of national will and that contradicts with the national will.''
''What is the duty of legislation? Its duty is to remove such problems. The national will has made its preference. You create a different problem by interpreting this national will in a different way. This means disrespect against national will. The important thing here is the revelation of the laws. There are and may be mistakes among laws. We want to correct such mistakes. Who will do such arrangements? The legislation, of course. With such arrangements, anti-democratic situations will also be corrected. Moreover, nobody wants amendment to laws for a single person. Nobody is trying to politicize the laws. If there is such a thing in question, they have to overlook what they have done in the past. They can easily see how laws were politicized if they look at the past. And the proof for this is Tayyip Erdogan,'' he said.
When asked whether or not amendment to Article 109 of the Constitution would be made after opening of the parliament, Erdogan said that there were a number of obstacles they had to overcome.
''At the time being, there are obstacles we have to overcome. If you show some patience, we will overcome many things together. AK Party will never take a step beyond the sensitivities in Turkey. AK Party will have Turkey enter a better atmosphere by taking steps desired by our nation,'' Erdogan said.
When a reporter said that he cannot amend the constitution with 363 deputies, Erdogan answered that this number is enough for an amendment.
Erdogan also said that they will later negotiate the articles about tobacco, sugar and natural gas as they stated prior to elections.
Upon a question about an alternative to make him a deputy from Siirt province, Erdogan said that he is not sure about the laws on that issue and added that it is difficult for him to be a deputy from Siirt and he cannot be a candidate in the existing conditions at the moment.
When asked his views about the statements of Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal on lifting up the political bans, Erdogan said that he never makes himself a subject for bargaining.
Upon a question, Erdogan recalled that AK Party members will not stay in deputy lodgings and added that they will take further steps in the future.
