BERLIN - Prof. Anil Cecen said on Sunday that future of the Middle East and European Union (EU) depended on political and economic development of Turkey.
A conference on ''Ataturk's Turkey in globalization and EU process'' was held in German capital Berlin by Kemalist Thought Association (ADD) on the 64th anniversary of demise of Ataturk, the Founder of Modern Turkish Republic.
Turkey's Ambassador in Berlin Osman Koruturk and Consul General Aydin Durusoy attended the conference.
Speaking in the conference, Cecen said that Turkey's position started to gain more importance day by day.
Cecen noted, ''Turkey's position was also important in the past. Ataturk was aware of the geopolitical importance of Turkey since he was an expert on this issue. He chose European model as the administration model in Turkey since he could foresee the future.''
Stating that Turkey had a multi-dimensional position which could not even be compared with other countries, Cecen said, ''Turkey is situated in a center full of conflicts between the EU, Asia, the Balkans and Caucasus with its Muslim and secular identity.''
Pointing out that Turkey was having a bottleneck, Cecen said, ''enmity and opposition to Ataturk is made by using democracy and people want to give up unitary state structure in Turkey these days.''
Cecen called on for review of EU-Turkey relations.
