Significant Increase Recorded In Number Of Tourists Visiting Harran

SANLIURFA - Significant increase was recorded in number of tourists visiting Harran township of southeastern Sanliurfa province, famous for first university ruins and beehive shaped houses.
Harran head official Halil Ibrahim Aksit told A.A correspondent on Sunday that 13 thousand 768 tourists visited their town last year while this number increased to 25 thousand 944 in the first ten months of this year.
Aksit said, ''we especially observe a significant rise in number of foreigners visiting our town. The number of tourists was doubled this year when compared to last year. We expect more tourists next year. Every activity contributes to promotion of Harran. We are attributing importance to promotion of our town to attract more tourists. Japanese, American, German and British tourists are showing interest in Harran.''
There was also a rise in production of carpets and rugs which provide a significant income to local people, Aksit added.
