ISTANBUL - Fadil Akgunduz, who was elected as an independent deputy from southeastern Siirt province when an investigation was under way regarding him on charges of embezzlement, returned to Turkey on Saturday.
Akgunduz came from New York to Istanbul.
Within the framework of the investigation launched against him on charges of embezzlement upon the application of 106 Turkish citizens living in Germany, the Bagcilar Criminal Court of Peace decided to arrest Akgunduz in absentia on April 4, 2002.
After Akgunduz was elected as an independent deputy, prosecutor Fahrettin Kucukoz, conducting the investigation, had applied to the Criminal Court of Peace to stop and reverse the enforcement of the imprisonment verdict.
Then, the Bagcilar Criminal Court of Peace stopped the enforcement of imprisonment in absentia and withdrew the decision.
