ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that President Ahmet Necdet Sezer hoped that a single party government and a single opposition would be beneficial for the future of the nation and the country.
Following his meeting with Sezer, Erdogan told reporters that he paid a visit to President Sezer upon the invitation of the president.
Erdogan said that Sezer congratulated him for the election results.
Noting that Sezer expressed pleasure with the beginning of relationship between the opposition and the ruling party with a compromise, Erdogan said, ''we said that we will be sensitive in our relations with not only the opposition but also the political parties outside the parliament and the non-governmental organizations. And, we said that the most important issue at the moment, about which the president is also sensitive, is the European Union (EU) process. We also told about the steps we have taken about the EU process.''
Erdogan added, ''we exchanged views about the dinner we had with the ambassadors of the EU countries to Turkey on Wednesday, appointment request from EU member countries and their dates, and our contacts with the non-governmenal organizations, especially with the organizations lobbying for the EU membership like TESEV, TUSIAD, TOBB, Agriculture Chambers Association and the three trade unions. Then, our meeting ended.''
