ANTALYA - Tourism sector is waiting for the EU Summit that will be held in Copenhagen on December 12.
Bekir Akkas, the Chairman of the Professional Hotel Administrators (POYD) said on Wednesday that the further development of Turkey in the field of tourism also depends on its accession to the EU.
''The eyes of tourism agents are on EU summit. If Turkey gets the negotiation date from EU to start full membership negotiations, the number of tourists will increase by 20 percent next year,'' Akkas said.
Akkas stressed that the tourism sector is afraid of a possible operation against Iraq, adding that if this does not come true, tourism will leap forward.
Akkas stressed that there are still many tourists in southern Antalya province, adding that ''particularly four star and five star hotels are full in hotels of Antalya, Belek, Side, Kemer and Alanya in November. Last winter we hosted 650,000 tourists in the region. I hope we can reach this number this year. Antalya will host more than five million tourists until the end of this year.''
Akkas noted that one party government will bring stability in Turkey and this will solve the problems of tourism.
