PARIS - French Minister in charge of European Affairs Noelle Lenoir said on Monday that he was pleased as the elections were held in a free and democratic atmosphere in Turkey.
Responding to questions of ''Europe 1'' radio channel, Lenoir said that AK Party and CHP which entered the parliament would respect secularism and they both aimed EU membership of Turkey.
As long as a party which also has a religious character, respects democracy, it can continue to fulfil Copenhagen political criteria which will open EU membership to Turkey, said Noelle Lenoir, adding ''now we wait for the foundation of the new government and its policies.''
