BRUSSELS - European Parliament's Liberal Group Head Graham Watson said on Monday that they would respect the results of the general elections in Turkey and that they would support the studies of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
Watson said that the Liberal Group was pleased with the statements of AK Party which said that it would continue launching efforts for Turkey's EU membership target and the EU reforms, adding that the support of the opposition party could open a new horizon for Turkey.
Watson said that contacts within the scope of Turkey-EU relations will intensify just after the foundation of the new government in Ankara, adding that progres can be recorded in the fields of Turkey's accession to EU, Cyprus problem and European Security and Defense Policy.
Watson said that there is an unhealthy election system in Turkey which prevents the reflection of the whole citizens' votes to the parliament just like in Britain.
