Ecevit: Erdogan Uses Careful, But Veiled Style In His Statements

ANKARA - Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said on Monday that AK Party leader Recep Tayip Erdogan uses a careful, but veiled style in his statements.
Speaking to press after meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Ecevit said that ''I was always against high election threshold. Such a high threshold is not seen in any country. In democratic countries the highest threshold is 5-6 percent. I think it is 4 percent in Sweden. I think the threshold will be reduced easily in the future, as its problems have been seen.''
When asked if he would come together with coalition leaders, Ecevit said that ''if they want and if we have the opportunity, we can come together at least and say bye-bye to each other.''
When asked his view about the first statements of AK Party leader Erdogan who said that he respected different sorts of living styles, Ecevit said that ''his messages are not very clear. He uses a careful style, a careful but a veiled one. I hope he will pursue an attitude by taking into consideration the realities of Europe and I hope he will not give any damage to the secular democratic regime. This will be good both for him, his party and the nation.''
''Greece was the first country which congratulated Erdogan. Can this be an important step in respect of EU membership?'' asked journalists to Ecevit who didn't want to make any comment.
