ANKARA - Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis on Monday called Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the leader of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which came out as the first party from the elections, and congratulated him.
AK Party issued a statement and said Simitis and Erdogan talked for 15 minutes, and that Simitis congratulated success of AK Party. The statement said Simitis also invited Erdogan to Greece.
It was pointed out that Erdogan accepted invitation of Simitis and that he wanted to pay the visit soon.
Erdogan told Simitis that any cooperation with Greece would be positive for Turkish-EU relations and for the whole world.
Simitis in his part expressed pleasure that Erdogan would start his visits to the EU member countries from Greece, and that he assigned two people to hold contacts in Ankara to discuss the procedure of this visit.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Erdogan will meet the foreign journalists today.
