AK PARTY ON ITS OWN
The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) gained 34.2 percent of the votes, and became the first political party. Meanwhile, Republican People's Party (CHP) became the second party with 19.2 percent of the votes. The AKP is expected to have 362 seats while the CHP is expected to have 179 seats at the parliament. Meanwhile, AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''our first activity will be about the European Union (EU). We have nearly 40 days before the EU's Copenhagen Summit in December. AK Party will be designated to form the government, and this process will take time. We should pay visits to EU member countries, ruling parties and opposition parties without waiting for it. We will take the necessary steps. We want to prove our determination.''

''41 PEOPLE WERE DETAINED''
Directorate General of Security said that any important incidents did not happen on the elections day affecting security of the general elections throughout Turkey. Meanwhile, a total of 41 people who attempted to cast their votes with false identity cards were detained.

FIVE WARNINGS FROM TURKEY TO UNITED STATES
The highest level military contacts took place between Turkey and the United States. The highest ranking official of the Turkish Armed Forces gave five messages of Turkey to General Franks and General Ralston:
1. We will intervene in a Kurdish state,
2. Kurdish people cannot take over Musul and Kerkuk,
3. Turkey's possible losses should be met and its 4 billion U.S. dollars debt should be removed.
4. The regime which will come into force after Iraqi Head of State Saddam Hussein should be supported.
5. The United States should not use peshmargas against Saddam.

BAHCELI TO WITHDRAW
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli has decided to withdraw from leadership after his party could not exceed electoral threshold in the general elections. The MHP will elect its new leader.

ECEVIT: ''WE COMMITTED SUICIDE''
Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit said about preliminary results of the general elections, ''I did not expect such a failure.'' ''During the last three and an half years, we carried out a series of necessary legislative works. Our coalition partners decided to hold the early elections when we started to yield positive results of our works. It was a vital mistake. In fact, we committed suicide by ourselves,'' he said.

MIDNIGHT INCREASE IN OIL PRICES
While Turkish people were watching news programs about results of the general elections, oil prices were increased by 0.45-1.95 percent. One liter of unleaded oil increased by 1.95 percent,

REACTION OF ANATOLIA
People's reaction to Ankara made the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) ruling party. The Republican People's Party became the opposition party. All other political parties could not exceed electoral threshold. AK Party leader explained his victory saying, ''I am the voice of the silent majority.''

GREAT CLEANSING
Voters erased all political parties except for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Republican People's Party (CHP). Motherland Party Mesut Yilmaz and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli decided to withdraw from politics while True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller locked herself home.

ELECTORAL THRESHOLD AGAINST DEMOCRACY
A total of 11.5 million voters did not cast their votes in the general elections. Meanwhile, votes of 13.5 million people remained below the electoral threshold. As a result, will of 25 million voters will not be represented at the parliament.

DENMARK REJECTS ERDOGAN
Denmark, the current term president of the European Union (EU), rejected Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Copenhagen saying, ''not you, but prime ministry candidate should come to Denmark.''

VOTERS GIVE A SERIOUS LESSON
Only two political parties have succeeded in entering the parliament. The Justice and Development Party will come to the power on its own. It will be the first political party coming to the power on its own since general elections in 1987.

GUL AMONG CANDIDATES FOR PRIME MINISTRY
Abdullah Gul, Vecdi Gonul and Abdulkadir Aksu are among the candidates of the Justice and Development Party (MHP) who are expected to name as the prime minister of the new party.

EU MONITORS ELECTIONS IN TURKEY
The European Union (EU) monitored the general elections in Turkey. The EU will make an official assessment later in the day. All international news agencies and Western media covered the preliminary results of the general elections as, ''a political party with Islamic roots have gained a victory in the general elections.''

AK PARTY IN POWER ALONE
Voters ''took charge'' and stability was re-settled in Turkey. Turkey has welcomed the ''single party power'' again since the period of Turgut Ozal of the Motherland Party (ANAP). The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which won the elections by gaining a 34 percent of total votes is going to take the power alone with 364 parliamentarians. AK Party supporters celebrated this victory while the Republican People's Party (CHP) became the second political party entering the parliament with a 19 percent of votes.

FIRE BREAKS OUT IN CELEBRATIONS IN IZMIT
A fire broke out in Yaylacik neighborhood in Kullar hamlet of northwestern province of Izmit when people were celebrating results of the general elections. A total of three houses were burnt down to ashes.

ECEVIT NOT TO WAIT FOR FINAL RESULTS
Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit said that coalition partners committed suicide by taking a decision to hold the early elections. Ecevit stressed that he would not wait for final of the results to go to the Cankaya Presidential Palace. Prime Minister Ecevit is expected to pay a visit to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer later in the day and to submit his resignation to him.

ERDOGAN CALLS ON HIS SUPPORTERS TO ACT WITH COMMON-SENSE
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on his supporters to act with common-sense and not to use any inciting or insulting expressions about members of other political parties.
