ANKARA - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli said on Sunday that it would be his duty to form a new administration in MHP which would hold its congress in 2003 and to make MHP have a structure that would fulfil their target with a new leader.
Bahceli told a press conference in which he hoped the results of the elections would be beneficial for the country.
Noting that the results of the elections showed that a political party would come to the power on its own, Bahceli said, ''every person and institution has to respect to this result.''
Bahceli noted that his party was below the electoral threshold and that this was not an expected situation.
''To this end, as the leader of the MHP, I am responsible for this situation. With this understanding, it will be my duty to form a new administration in MHP which will hold its congress in 2003 and to make MHP have a structure that will fulfil our target, with a new leader,'' he said.
Asked if he would resign from leadership, Bahceli said, ''I am clearly stating that the congress will be held in 2003. As the MHP leader, it will be my duty to convene the congress and make our party have a new administration under the pioneership of a new leader that will make our party reach its target.''
