ISTANBUL - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) said on Sunday that his party was ready to work to accelerate Turkey's European Union (EU) accession process.
Erdogan told a press conference that he believed that the nation gave the most correct decision.
''I hope the decision of our nation will be beneficial. We all have to respect to the decision of our people. As Ataturk said, the sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation. Turkey is entering a new process after November 3. In this frame, AK Party is ready to fulfil its responsibilities to bring better days to Turkey. Our party is ready to work to build a political will which respects to living rights of all our citizens, which heads for the future moving from the philosophy that 'make people live so that the state continues to live', which makes constitutional institutions work more efficiently, which accelerates Turkey's EU accession process, and which is determined to implement an economic program that strengthens the integration of our country with the world,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan noted that Turkey was passing through a very important intersection. Stating that ballot boxes throughout Turkey were being opened and the results started to become definite, Erdogan said that Turkey needed common sense at the moment.
Upon a question about their stance if 35 percent of the will of the nation remained outside the parliament, Erdogan said, ''I have never used such an expression. This expression does not belong to me. We did not prepare that law. Motherland Party (ANAP) prepared this law and at this moment, AK Party takes the lead in the elections according to early results. The response of our party to your question is that we are on charge. We hope Turkey will live a very different and meaningful period in regard to fundamental rights and liberties with us. I believe everybody will live a very different period with us with a pluralist democracy understanding.
Asked who would be the prime minister, Erdogan said, ''I have earlier expressed the general rule. This is not linked with my personality. What will be necessary will be done.''
