Greek Fans Throw Plastic Bottles And Other Objects At Turkish And Greek Ministers

ISTANBUL - Shortly before the UEFA Cup second round first leg between Fenerbahce and Panathinaikos of Greece at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul on Thursday, unfortunate incidents happened.
Greek fans threw plastic bottles and other objects at Turkish and Greek ministers and officials of the two clubs.
Prior to the match, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, Greek Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos, Greek Deputy Culture Minister for Sports Giorgos Lianis, Turkish Football Federation Deputy Chairman Ata Aksu, Fenerbahce club president Aziz Yildirim and Panathinaikos club president Aggelos Filippidis signed the Olympic Peace Declaration.
Later, they started to tour the stadium to greet Turkish and Greek fans.
Fenerbahce fans welcomed this gesture with applause.
Later, the Turkish and Greek ministers and officials wanted to greet Greek fans but Greek fans threw stadium seats, plastic bottles and other objects at the Turkish and Greek ministers and officials.
Turkish and Greek ministers protected themselves from those flying objects with their hands with help of their bodyguards, and later they stopped their stadium tour.
