ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer hosted a reception at the Cankaya Presidential Palace on Tuesday night to mark the 79th anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey.
Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi; Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit; Constitutional Court Chief Judge Mustafa Bumin; General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok; members of the Council of Ministers; commanders of land, air, naval and gendarmerie forces; Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan; Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan; Ankara Governor Yahya Gur; Ankaya Mayor Melih Gokcek; diplomats including U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Robert Pearson; journalists; artists; religious leaders of minority communities in Turkey; chairmen and representatives of vocational organizations and sportsmen were in attendance at the reception.
Meanwhile, President Sezer and Prime Minister Ecevit held a brief talk during the reception. President Sezer informed Prime Minister Ecevit on his visit to Copenhagen as official guest of Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen of Denmark, the current term president of the European Union (EU).
A RECEPTION HOSTED IN NEW YORK
Turkish Permanent Representation at the United Nations in New York, the United States, hosted a reception on Tuesday night to mark the 79th anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey.
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and a number of guests were in attendance at the reception hosted by Turkish Permanent Representative at the United States Umit Pamir.
Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent that during the reception, Annan eulogized Turkey's making contributions to United Nations peace keeping forces and undertaking command of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.
A RECEPTION HOSTED IN WASHINGTON D.C. TO MARK REPUBLIC DAY
Turkish Ambassador to the United States Faruk Logoglu hosted a reception to mark the 79th anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and a number of guests were in attendance at the reception.
