TURKISH REPUBLIC IS 79 YEARS OLD
We celebrate the 79th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic today. The Republic was founded by great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The first ceremony will be held in Ataturk's Mausoleum in Ankara and activities will continue throughout the day.

SEZER AKSU GIVES CONCERT IN BRUSSELS
Famous Turkish singer Sezer Aksu gave a concert in Brussels with her ''Songs of Turkey'' in Brussels, where the heart of Europe is. A total of 2500 persons including European Commission and European Parliament officials watched her concert. Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz also watched the concert. Sezen called Europe to listen to the Songs of Turkey with their heart.

TAX EVADERS TO BE ACQUITTED
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) prepared a financial amnesty draft law. If the party comes to power, tax evaders will be pardoned. The bill was prepared by Bulent Gedikli, the AK Party deputy leader.

PEOPLE WANT ECEVIT TO INTRODUCE HIS SUCCESSOR
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit who is also the leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) tells people in public meetings that he will transfer the party leadership to another person, but he does not tell the name of this person. Therefore just like AK Party, the prime minister candidate of DSP is not known. Certain politicians criticized both Ecevit and the leader of AKP Tayyip Erdogan saying that not introducing the parties' candidates for prime ministry is not fair.

BIRTHS BY CESAREAN INCREASE BY 60 PERCENT
The rate of giving birth to a baby by cesarean increased by 60 percent in Turkey. Many doctors insist parents to chose this method as this operation is expensive and it does not need too much time. After being informed that the rate of cesarean in Turkey increased by three folds when compared to European countries, Health Ministry made obligatory the approval of two experts for cesarean in hospitals.

ELECTION WARNING FROM EU
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Prime Minister of Denmark said that the election result in Turkey will have a big influence in the decision that will be given about Turkey in Copenhagen summit in December.

SEZER SAYS HE WILL TAKE ACTION IF THERE IS AUTHORITY VACUUM AFTER
ELECTIONS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer had contacts in Copenhagen, Denmark following the EU summit held by EU Term President Denmark for candidate countries. Sezer had a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen and he spoke to the press after the meeting. Responding to a question asking ''who would hold contacts with the EU if there was a vacuum in the administration during efforts to form a new government after the elections,'' Sezer said that he would search the ways to meet EU leaders in such a situation. Sezer noted that EU leaders told him that they welcomed reforms made by Turkey and they would take into consideration the additional measures to be taken till the Copenhagen summit when making a decision about Turkey. Sezer stated that he expressed Turkey's expectations from term president Denmark during his meeting with Rasmussen.

PRESIDENT SEZER CALLS PEOPLE TO CAST VOTES
The 79th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic is celebrated in the whole country with joy. Issuing a message on the Republic Day, President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said that one of the most important characteristics of the Republic is the citizens' participation in the administration of the country. He called citizens to cast votes in the elections on November 3.

OBSERVERS FROM EUROPE FOR ELECTIONS
Turkey has agreed to have European observers at the Nov. 3 general elections. Delegations from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (COEPA) and European Parliament (EP) will come to Turkey to observe the elections.

INCREASE IN PENSION
The government which wants to please retired people opened to signature a decree on increase in pension. State Minister Masum Turker for economy and Labor and Social Security Minister Nejat Arseven said that the retired people would also have an increase in their pension after the gross 100 million TL increase which was made in the salaries of the civil servants.

SUPPORT FROM GERMANY TO CHP
Social Democratic Party (SDP) which is in power in Germany held a meeting to support the Republican People's Party (CHP). Turkish members of the SDP held a ''Republic Panel'' and a meeting to support the CHP in Berlin. Berlin State Parliament members Dilek Kolat and Ulker Radziwill attended the meeting. Kolat said that CHP was necessary for Turkey to record progress in its European policy.

PRESIDENT SEZER SAYS EVERYONE SHOULD VOTE FOR ELECTIONS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer who issued a message to mark the 79th anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey said that democratic order which provided rights to the people also gave the people responsibilities and duties. Sezer stated that all Turkish people should vote for the November 3 elections.

CEM: ''WE HAVE MISSED CHANCE''
New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said that he thought that Turkey would not be given a date to start the membership negotiations with the European Union (EU), even if a serious and reliable prime minister came onto the power after the November 3 elections. Cem who held a press conference said that this government lost the chance to get a certain date for the Copenhagen Summit. He said that the Turkish people should vote for a leader who supports the EU member of Turkey.

SEZEN AKSU PROMOTES TURKEY IN BRUSSELS
Sezen Aksu who gave a concert in Brussels with the organization of Turkish and Armenian Business Council and European Movement 2002 promoted Turkey with her songs in Europe. A total of 3,000 people including mostly Turkish people who live in Belgium watched the concert which was held in Brussels Congress Hall. State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz who delivered a speech before the concert said that Turkey which was the center of civilizations and history should be a member of the European Union.
