ANKARA - A competition started among the world leading locomotive companies for 65 electrically operated locomotives to be purchased by the Directorate General of State Railways (TCDD) within the scope of modernization of railways.
TCDD started to accept offers of international companies within the scope of the bid, which was held in October and which is worth of 100 million dollars.
Proposals were accepted from companies from Germany (Siemens), France (Alstom) and Canada-Sweden cooperation (Bombardier).
A part of the locomotives will be produced in TCDD installations in Turkey. The locomotives will mainly start to work on Ankara-Istanbul railway line as they will shorten the journey significantly.
