ANTALYA - Suleyman Yagcioglu, a member of Central Decision Taking and Executive Board of the Motherland Party (ANAP), was arrested by the court in southern province of Antalya on Saturday on charges of ''obtaining unfair income by founding a profiteering criminal organization, collecting illegal money on behalf of the organization and threatening people.''
Antalya Provincial Department of Security Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crimes Office teams launched an investigation when Sureyya Peker and Kemal Peker, the owners of Peker Jewelry, applied to the Antalya Chief Prosecutor's Office claiming that a group of people threatened them and wanted an important amount of protection money.
During the investigation, an arrest warrant was released for seven people including Yagcioglu.
Yagcioglu was detained in Ankara, and brought to Antalya for testimony.
Later, he was transferred to the courthouse, and interrogated by Prosecutor Cafer Tufekci.
Yagcioglu was arrested and sent to the prison after his interrogation on charges of ''obtaining unfair income by founding a profiteering criminal organization, collecting illegal money on behalf of the organization and threatening people.''
He pleaded not guilty, and claimed that accusations against him were a part of a plot.
Yagcioglu who is married with one child, was one of founding members of the ANAP.
