STRASBOURG - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided that Turkey should pay compensation in a case filed on charges of torture and violation of right to an independent and impartial tribunal.
Releasing a statement on Tuesday, the ECHR said that Turkey would pay a 25 thousand euros compensation and 3 thousand euros for costs and expenses to Meryem Algur who is still serving her sentence in Bayrampasa Prison in Istanbul.
Algur who had been arrested during operations in Istanbul in 1995 against the terrorist organization sent a complaint petition to the ECHR, claiming that she was exposed to torture during her detention period.
