ANKARA - National Defense Minister Sabahattin Cakmakoglu said on Tuesday that ''the contacts held with two American generals on Monday had totally military and technical character.''
''As it is also understood from the American generals' own statements, they didn't have any concrete demand from Turkey,'' said Cakmakoglu.
Tunisian Defense Minister Dali Jazi visited Cakmakoglu the same day.
Responding to questions of journalists about the contacts with American generals, Cakmakoglu said that ''the contacts with the American generals were held at the high ranking level with Turkish commanders. Turkey's policy on Iraq is known, our concerns with Northern Iraq has been explained to them sufficiently. Our policy is peaceful solution of the problem.''
When reminded about the foreign press's stating that Turkey could not react much to the formation in Northern Iraq due to the elections in Turkey, Cakmakoglu said that ''personally, I reacted sufficiently to the developments.'' ''Is transferring forces to the region included in this reaction?'' asked journalists to Cakmakoglu who said that ''no, I tell this in general meaning of the term.''
